Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is new king of Nurburgring
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is no longer that fastest production car to lap the Nürburgring in Germany. Mercedes-AMG’s GT Black Series is the new record-holder, finish the lap in just 6 minutes and 43.616 seconds, making it just that little bit quicker than the Lamborghini.
About the lap record
The GT Black Series set an official “measure and notarised” certified time of 6 minutes and 43.616 seconds for the lap discluding the T13 straight and 6 minutes and 48.047 seconds for the full lap. And that’s what puts it bang in the street-legal supercar space.
The record that was accomplished before 2019 was set without the inclusion of the 232-metre straight that was part of the new official lap. This new record was achieved with Mercedes-Benz cars racing driver, Maro Engel, at the wheel.
There are some notable changes that have been made to the GT Black Series that includes an adjustable front splitter that’s been extended to the Race position, The anti-roll bars are found in their hardest setting while the camber has been adjusted as well.
The nine-stage traction control system on the GT Black Series was adjusted between positions ‘six’ and ‘seven’. The racing driver was left hugely impressed by the car, and found it to be faster than his GT3 race car.
Fast, faster, fastest
Under the vast hood the GT Black Series lies a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that produces 720bhp and 800Nm of torque, with the car sprinting from 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds, achieving a top speed of 325kph. All the power is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Thanks to its profound aerodynamics and chassis dynamics, it has managed to accomplish the fastest lap as of today.
Outlandish looks
The AMG GT Black Series looks properly menacing, and may have you think the designers went a little too far with the styling, but that’s because of the wind tunnel. There’s lots of carbon visible and contrasts well with the Magma Orange paint you see in the pictures. The massive active spoiler adds to its aggressive look, and the additional aero you see helps the car generate massive downforce at 155mph. The car sits on 20-inch wheels at the rear and 19-inch wheels up-front, which give it a nice, wide, squat stance. The rear looks a bit heightened with the quad pipes giving that rear the appeal it needs. Also, grab the latest info on the new cars, only at autoX.
